As we see here; most letters have a same body as one or more others, and to differentiate them from each other we need to remember the dots and added marks on a letter.

<Example>

Lets create our first word using Urdu alphabets!

Our first word will consists of 3 letters from the Urdu character chart above. Its an interesting word that will give us meanings both in English as well as Urdu.

1- ر = r
2- و = o
3- ز = z

So, we have selected 3 letters and now all we have to do is to put them in right to left order of Urdu script.

It give us the word “roz” or correct spell “Rose” and the translitration of this word in Urdu script is روز ____________ we did it!

But we did more than just translitrating Rose into روز !
This word روز also has a meaning in Urdu and that is, DAILY

Lets take a look once again on the Urdu alphabet chart and we will not forget the dots and added marks.

Why don’t you try to make some more words yourself, picking the letters from the above chart?

Ok lets make the War! To write this in Urdu we need three letters from Urdu letter chart, one for each W, A and R and then put them togather in right to left order.

وار

Yes, this is the translitration of English word, WAR; but don’t forget to read it RAW, remember? Right to Left!

To understand some more words of Urdu you can take a look of the table below and try to read the last 3 by yourself using the alphabet chart above.

Its time to see, how to write a letter of Urdu alphabet correclty. As a general rule you can help yourself by keeping in your mind to start the stroke of the letter from Right and Top, and end at Left.

As and example, some letter are given in the following picture for their way of writing. Kieeping this in mind you can try to figureout, how to write other letters. We will also give the correct way of writing the other letters somewhere next in this article.

So far we write the Urdu words by using letter that don’t need to connect each other and can be used separately just like English TYPING. But, its not always so, in Urdu mostly letters inside a word connect eachother; you can consider it like English HANDWRITING, where letters connect eachother by a ligature.

Say for example, English word GOOD. To write this in Urdu script we need a letter for G ( گ ) and U ( و ) and D ( ڈ ) sonunds each, so it supposed to be something like گ و ڈ , right? Infact the correct way of writing Good in Urdu script is like گڈ .

Looks much different what we thought! Isn’t it? Whats going on here is what we mentioned earlier that in Urdu, usually letters in a word connects eachother by a ligature. If we see the word گڈ carefullly we can recognize the initial half of گ that is merging with ڈ , letter for D, ok?
