[[ملف:Urcity.jpg|framepx|thumb|left|]]ایک قدیم سمیری شہر جو آج سے 4 ہزار یا 3500 ق م بابل سے تقریباً 140 میل جنوب میں موجود دریائے فرات سے دس میل کے فاصلے پر آباد تھا۔ بائبل کے مطابق حضرت ابراہیم علیہ سلام اسی شہر میں پیدا ہوئے تھے۔ چھٹی صدی ق م تک یہ ایک پر رونق اور خوش حال بستی تھی۔ بیسویں صدی کے اوائل میں مشہور ماہر آثار قدیمہ لیوناردودولی نے اس شہرکے آثار دریافت کیے۔
