اس کا ذکر سب سے پہلے 4 64 is میں کیا گیا تھا، جب اس نے اصطخر کے قریب عرب فوجی رہنما علا الحضرمی کو شکست دی تھی۔ کچھ عرصے بعد، عثمان بن ابی العاص نے توجوج میں ایک فوجی اڈا قائم کیا، اور اس کے فورا بعد میں شاہ شہر کے قریب شاہرگ کو شکست دے کر ہلاک کردیا (تاہم دوسرے ذرائع کے مطابق یہ شہرک کا بھائی تھا جسے اسنے مارا تھا)۔
