DR.ABDUL LATIF

Dr.Abdul Latif is a faculty member in the discipline of Unani Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Aligarh Muslim Uni versity, Aligarh. He is also working as Co-ordinator of the DRS-I Programme of UGC [1]. Biography Dr. Abdul Latif’s father Late Dr. Altaf Ahmad ‘Chashme-wale’ was a famous Social worker of his time.In early sixties his father had served for several years for the social cause of the society, he organized many Eye relief Camps for Cataract operation in remote areas and villages of Gonda District (U.P) and also laid great emphasis on women education, for this he also established Gonda Muslim Girls School in Gonda Avadh (U.P). Dr. Abdul Latif earned his matriculation in 1968, intermediate in 1970 from U.P Board Allahabad, B.Sc from Gorakhpur University in 1973, graduation Bachelor of Unani Medicine with Modern Medicine & Surgery (BUMMS) in 1978 and postgraduation (MD) in Ilmul Advia (i.e Unani Pharmacology & Pharmaceutical Science) in 1983 from Department of Ilmul Advia, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, Aligarh Muslim University, India. He is also perusing PhD on “Development of Ilmul Advia during Abbasid period & Its Relevance in Modern Age” [2]. He has done Indo-American Course of Ophthalmic Optometry from Indiana, University U. S. A. and Dermatology Pharmacy Course from School of Dermatology New Delhi. He has been on the board of various academic bodies such as Indian Pharmacological Society [3]; International Association for the Study of Traditional Asian Medicine [4]; European Society of Integrative Medicine, Berlin, Germany [5]; International Association for History of Islamic Medicine [6], Bahrain and also on editorial board panel of academic journals such as journal of Pharmacovigilance & Drug safety (Society of Pharmacovigilance-India), Pharmacophore [7] and Joint Secretory & Life Member of Ibn Sina Academy [8]. He served as General Warden Sir Syed Hall (North) (1999-2007) and Provost at Sir Syed Hall (South) (2011–2012), for hall of resident students of Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. • Model Designed on Anasir Akhlat wa Mizaj: Fig.1 A teaching aid material “model on Anasir, Akhlat wa Mizaj” designed by Dr.Abdul Latif being used in P.G. Department of Ilmul Advia, A. K. Tibbiya College, A.M.U. Aligarh, designed for the student of the Unani Tib. This wooden model has proved particularly useful in creating interest in the students as provided good learning situation by constant visual impact of a colorful re presentation of a theory of Akhlat and Mizaj for the first time. Other colleges are also using same colorful wooden model for teaching of Humoral theory.
