چودھری
(چوہدری سے رجوع مکرر)
• سلطنت مغلیہ میں جلال الدین محمد اکبر نے لگان یعنی ٹیکس کا نظام رائج کیا تھا اس نظام کے تحت ہر کسان سے اُس کی فصل کا چوتھا حصہ وصول کیا جاتا تھا۔ اس چوتھے حصے کے لگان کو وصول کرنے کے لیے جن لوگوں کو مغل سلطنت میں نوکر بھرتی کیا جاتا تھا اُن کو چودهری کا نام دیا جاتا تھا۔
- (فارسی زبان میں چو کا مطلب چوتھا اور دهری کا مطلب مالک ہے) یعنی چوتھے حصے کا مالک۔
مغل سلطنت میں چوتھے حصے کے لگان کو وصول کرنے والے کو چودھری کہا جاتا ہے۔ پاکستان میں چودھری کا لفظ ارائیں، جٹ،گجر اور راجپوت ذات سے تعلق رکھنے والے لوگ اپنے خاندانی نام کے طور پر استعمال کرتے ہیں۔
املا اور معنی
ترمیمچودھری صحیح املا ہے۔ چوہدری، چوھدری، چودہری وغیرہ اصولًا نادرست ہیں۔ جان ٹی پلیٹس نے بھی اسی املا کو نقلِ حرفی کرکے Chaudhary لکھا ہے۔
